As if the President’s Pride proclamations weren’t enough, Target is getting in on the Pride act as well. They are selling t-shirts to benefit the Family Equality Council, which “connects, supports, and represents the one million lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender parents in this country and the two million children they are raising.” Target will donate 100% of the proceeds of the sale of the shirts up to $120,000 to the organization.
That Target was selling their t-shirts was something I had seen before, but it wasn’t until I saw a post on Joe. My. God. that lead me to an article on christianpost.com where I read about the donation. (christianpost.com is, of course, outraged over the sale of the t-shirts and the fact that Target is, apprently, blocking email from the anti-gay American Family Association, who also object to the t-shirts.) It appears that Target is trying to make up for their big boo-boo of 2010 where they donated $150K to a Politcal Action Committe (PAC) supporting Tom Emmer, the really anti-gay former Republican candidate for Governor of Minnesota. The amonunt donated to the PAC and the amount being donated from the sales of the shirts is near equal.
The sale of the shirts will only be on sale through June 30, 2012. Get ’em while they’re hot. christanpost.com is reporting that already half of the shirts are sould out. Go Equality.
