News reports from various sources and blogs are reporting on the shooting that happened earlier today at the Family Research Council offices in Washington, DC. Below is an except from nbcnews.com:
A gunman who shot a security guard Wednesday at the Family Research Council office in Washington, D.C., was carrying a handgun and several additional rounds of ammunition, federal investigators told NBC News.
Washington, D.C., police say the man, in his late 20s, walked into the headquarters of the conservative Christian lobbying group around 10:45 a.m. When challenged by the security guard, the gunman shot the guard in the arm.
The guard wrestled the gun away from the shooter and prevented him from hurting anyone elsed, police said (source).
While details are sketchy at this point about the motive of the supspect, I wanted to take the opportunity to say two things. 1) Bravo to the gaurd who stopped the shooter and prevented anyone else from being harmed. 2) Violence is not acceptable, whether it be against Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) individuals or those who are in opposition to us. While our views on the matter of LGBT equality are quite divergent and our arguments can be heated, neither side should ever resort to physical harm to make our point.
I will update this post as further details become available about the shooting.
