I’ve done a fair amount of posting about why it is getting better for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender people. Pulling out events that demonstrate in a concrete manner that we are moving forward; gaining more acceptance; becoming equal. Trying to show that it is getting better to give LGBT youth some hope for their lives and their future. How appropriate that the founder of the It Gets Better Project, columnist Dan Savage gives us though his own words an indirect, yet just as powerful, reason why it gets better.
From Dan’s interview with Chris Hayes on Up with Chris Hayes:
…I came out in 1981…Telling your parents that you were gay–your catholic parents–you were gay in 1981 was telling them that you would never marry; you would never have children; you would never be a Marine and here we are in just the course of my adult life and I’m married–I have–Terry and I have a child that we’ve adopted at birth together and raised–is almost 15–and now we can be Marines…
The world has changed significantly my young LGBT friends. And there are more changes ahead; positive changes for all of us. Live to see them happening. Because they are coming, and equality is coming with them.
Why It Gets Better is a series of postings showing, real-time, concrete, tangible ways that life is getting better for LGBT people.
