As first seen on the blog Joe. My. God., daughter of country legend Johnny Cash is stepping up to help LGBT youth. Cash has recorded a song about a gay couple with proceeds going to St. Luke’s in the Fields in New York City. St Luke’s has been a safe space for LGBT kids since 2001:
Greenwich Village is a destination for thousands of LGBTQA young people. They come from all over the city, and beyond, looking for a safe place to express themselves. They do not need to fear homophobic violence or moral condemnation here. In 2001, St. Luke’s began opening its doors to these young people on Saturday nights. The Church offers hot meals, workshops in the visual and performing arts, and the services of social workers and caring adult volunteers. Today the program serves 20—30 young people each week and more than 900 young people ages 14—21 are currently enrolled.
