Logo TV’s New Sexy, Inclusive Safe-Sex Ad Campaign

Sceen Shot of the Real Men Revealed WebsiteLogo TV has teamed up with Gilead, a “research-based biopharmaceutical company”, for a public service announcement (PSA) website called ‘Real Men Revealed.’ The site features men talking about being up-front in discussion of safe-sex and HIV status; a series of video PSA’s called ‘Full-Frontal Honesty.’

There are a lot of things that I really liked about the series. It features a variety of guys: HIV positive, HIV negative, white, guys of color, and drag queens. I love that it is not just one type of guy talking to you, but there’s a whole host of men talking to you. This helps to see someone like yourself in this kind of discussion. The striptease that the men do also makes the PSA slightly sexy and holds your attention without being distracting from the main message. I also like that the men are good looking without being body gods. They have a real world body shape to them rather than a body shape that makes you think, ‘spokesmodel’ vs. real person, which can also lessen the impact of the message. The only thing that would make it even more inclusive would be men who were of older ages. Even when you’re in your 40s, 50s and beyond, it’s important to know your status and talk about safe-sex.

I would have liked to include one of the videos as part of this post, but it Logo isn’t one of the sites that WordPress allows in its video embed roster. You’ll have to click on over to the Real Men Revealed website to see more.

Why does this campaign only include men? Women watch Logo, women have sex, women get AIDS, women need to practice safe sex too.
