These ads for Marriott Hotels featuring same-sex couples are appearing in various stations on the Washington, D.C. subway system (METRO). The text reads:
Meet Carmine and Tosh. Anywhere and everywhere they journey together, they take their love for each other with them. Together with Marriott, they’re showing the world how love travels.
One of the tenets that we have used as we strive for full equality is that we deserve equality because ‘we are everywhere.’ We are your doctors, lawyers, nurses, schoolteachers, etc. It’s nice to see that everywhere extending to general public advertising, too.
In years past an ad like this might appear in a gay publication, but not anywhere where else. Certainly not on such a public platform as a subway platform. Being out in public in person and in print is another reason why it gets better.
Why It Gets Better is a series of postings showing, real-time, concrete, tangible ways that life is getting better for LGBT people.
